Cybercab’s reveal price was a target, not an order price
The distinction matters because acquisition cost is only the beginning of a fleet budget.
Archive coverage: the date above identifies the historical event, announcement or report. Analysis is written with hindsight; earlier targets are not current commitments.
At the October 2024 reveal, Tesla described a sub-$30,000 price ambition and a 2026 production goal for Cybercab.
Collective perspective
The distinction matters because acquisition cost is only the beginning of a fleet budget. Taxes, financing, equipment, insurance and working capital can affect the amount needed before the first paid trip. A headline target also does not specify which features, software or operating rights are included.
We would treat an announced price as a sensitivity case until current buyer terms replace it. A collective should be able to explain how its model changes if the eventual cost is higher, deliveries arrive later or utilization is lower. The historical announcement is useful context, not a quote available to this project.
