Tesla revisited the possibility of customer-owned vehicles joining its network

In July 2025, Elon Musk discussed adding vehicles not directly owned by Tesla to the robotaxi network in a later phase.

Collective perspective

This possibility is especially relevant to a collective ownership concept, but it leaves the commercial architecture unresolved. Ownership alone does not specify who controls dispatch, what fees apply, how liability is divided or when an asset qualifies for service.

We would look for an actual participation framework before treating the network as open to independent fleets. That framework would need to explain payment, eligibility, support and withdrawal from the service. The statement belongs in the history of the owner-participation idea; it should not be read as a current offer to Cybercab Collective or its prospective participants.
